The Dhailkhina class[1] was a 24th century Romulan Tal Shiar starship type, a command strike-wing warbird in Zhat Vash service in the 2390s decade. (PIC episode: "Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 1", STO website: House Shattered: Make it So)

History and specifications[]

Following the Destruction of Romulus in 2387, the Dhailkhina-class warbird operated as a Tal Shiar ship from within Romulan Free State territory. The secret cabal within the Tal Shiar, the Zhat Vash, operated at least one ship of this class in 2399. In that year, Zhat Vash leader General Nedar commanded a fleet of 217 warbirds, including her flagship, during a standoff with Soong-type androids and Starfleet at Coppelius. (PIC episodes: "Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 1", "Part 2")

By the 2410s decade, the Zhat Vash was considered a defunct organization. In the year 2411, soon after the Shattering of the Klingon Empire[2] in the Klingon Civil War of 2411[3], ships of the class were acquired by the Khitomer Alliance. Rated as tier 6 command starship/strike-wing escort warbirds, the Dhailkhina class was made available to the military services of each Alliance member state. At the time of launch, those were Federation Starfleet, the Klingon Defense Force, the Romulan Republic Navy, and the Dominion's Jem'Hadar Vanguard Fleet. Soon after recovery, a ship of this class appeared hovering above Starfleet Academy on Earth, scaring a couple of Starfleet cadets. (STO website: House Shattered: Make it So)

The ship was classified as a strike-wing escort for being a compact, combat-oriented starship that housed a hangar of fighters for assistance in hostile engagements. The standard complement of a Dhailkhina-class warbird was a Snakehead fighter squadron. Traditionally for Romulan ships, the Dhailkhina was equipped with a cloaking device. Untypically, it was armed with Zhat Vash-based disruptor beam arrays and photon torpedo launchers instead of the typical Romulan plasma-based weaponry of the 25th century.
