Dimorus (also called Dimorus IV) is the fourth planet in the Dimorus system/Tarod sector which was the homeworld of the Dimorusians, a race of poisonous dart-shooting rodents.
History and specifics[]
This class M planet lacked an ocean. Complex underground reservoirs of water on Dimorus IV fed dense underbrush and forests throughout the surface. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)
It had at least one moon. Animal lifeforms included six-legged Dimoran butterflies and small four-legged dinosaur-like reptiles with pointed spikes along their backs.
Dimorus was considered a recent discovery in the 2250s decade. Starfleet oversaw a six-month orbital study, but when results were inconclusive, a seven-member Human survey team visited the surface for three weeks in 2254 to clandestinely observe the natives. (TOS comic: "Gary")
By the 2260s, surveys had found medically valuable herbs on Dimorus. (TOS board game: The Adventure Game)
In 2265, the starship USS Enterprise orbited Dimorus and beamed down a landing party. (TOS episode & Star Trek 8 novelization: Where No Man Has Gone Before, TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Enterprise)
- Most sources reported that the planet was inhabited only by natives. However, the Enterprise visited in response to a distress call from a Federation colony there, in TOS novel: Captain's Peril.
After inspecting a seemingly empty rodent village, the landing party was ambushed by aggressive natives. Pete Rossi was hit by a dart and died within seconds. (TOS - New Visions comic: "Strange New Worlds")
Lieutenant Commander Gary Mitchell was shot with one of the poisonous darts, which was intended for his friend Captain James T. Kirk. (TOS episode & Star Trek 8 novelization: Where No Man Has Gone Before, TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Enterprise)

According to a conflicting account, the incident occurred in 2255, not long after Lieutenant Kirk's visit with Tyree on Neural. The USS Farragut responded to a distress call from an anthropological team sent three weeks earlier to study the natives. In this account, the Dimorusians were Human-sized, and the incident was resolved peacefully, with Mitchell cured by the natives. (TOS comic: "Gary")
Several other expeditions have visited Dimorus for botanical laboratory research. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)
The Federation eventually quarantined the planet due to dangers posed by the natives. (ST references: The Worlds of the Federation, Star Trek Maps; FASA RPG module: The Federation)
In 2268, a non-corporeal version of Gary Mitchell re-enacted the poison dart incident as a shared illusion for Leonard McCoy and Spock, with McCoy in the role of Mark Piper. (TOS - New Visions comic: "Strange New Worlds")
In one alternate reality, Kirk was not present during the incident. Three darts hit Mitchell and left him with a permanent limp, enough to deny him further starship duty. A retaliatory strike killed a large number of the natives. (TOS - Myriad Universes - Infinity's Prism novella: A Less Perfect Union)
The incident may not have occurred in the Kelvin timeline. Instead of mentioning it on Delta Vega I as he did in the prime reality, Gary Mitchell showed James T. Kirk illusions of the Iowa bar and taking exams at Starfleet Academy. (TOS - Where No Man Has Gone Before comic: "Part 2")
The location of Dimorus was labeled on star charts in astrometrics and on the main bridge on USS Voyager. The viewing angle showed surrounding locations such as Daran V, Kaldra IV, Nimbus III and Peliar Zel. (ST video game: Captain's Chair; VOY episode: "Child's Play" display graphics)
