Dimorusian

Dimorusians.

The Dimorusians (also called Dimorans) were sapient, bipedal rodent-like creatures native to Dimorus IV.

Specifics[]

They stood about .7 meters tall, weighed about 32 kilograms, and lived roughly 14 years. Their backs were lined with quills similar to those of the Terran porcupine. Unlike the porcupine, Dimorusian quills were highly toxic. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)

The native population numbered about 1 billion. (FASA RPG module: The Federation)

They ranked about C- on the Richter Scale of Culture. (ST reference: Star Trek Maps)

The rodents were reported to be nocturnal and resided in small straw hut villages. They sometimes wore metallic garments that interfered with tricorder scans. (TOS - New Visions comic: "Strange New Worlds")

A conflicting account described the Dimorusians as Human-sized descendants of rodents who released complex pheromones, in TOS comic: "Gary".

History[]

Starfleet oversaw a six-month orbital study of the Dimorans, but when results were inconclusive, a seven-member Human survey team conducted onsite, clandestine observations of them in 2255. (TOS comic: "Gary")

In 2265, Dimorusians ambushed a landing party from the starship USS Enterprise. Gary Mitchell was hit by one of the dart-like quills while protecting James T. Kirk. (TOS episode & Star Trek 8 novelization: Where No Man Has Gone Before, TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Enterprise)

Dimorus IV was once used by botanists as a research facility. This did not last due to the xenophobic nature of the Dimorusians, who killed several scientists with their quills. Despite the eventual development of an antidote, the planet was quarantined to avoid hostilities. (ST reference: The Worlds of the Federation)
