A directed-energy weapon or beam weapon is a type of weapon that causes damage by channeling large amounts of specific types of energy at a target.

History and specifications[]

Beam weapons cause various types of heat damage or simply act to overload force fields and shields. These types of weapons have been deployed both in hand-held weapon forms and as ship mounted weapons. Some weapons of this sort are particle weapons and radiation weapons, in which specific forms of radiation or subatomic particles are employed to facilitate the energy discharge. A more basic sort of directed-energy weapon is a laser, which is a beam made of light.
