Djana was a planet near the Romulan Star Empire. It was the homeworld of the Djanai. A number of Djanai colonized the neighboring world of Inar and became known as the Inari, achieving technological superiority over their neighbors on the motherworld. However, when Inar became uninnhabitable, the Inari returned to Djana and took over the government, joining the Federation, a move which the Djanai did not support. In light of Djanai terrorism, the Federation established a controversial peace-keeping force on Djana. Djana was valued by the Federation both strategically, due to its proximity to Romulan space, and for its export of alcohol, which rivaled Saurian brandy in popularity. (TOS novel: The Lost Years)
