Doctor is a title given to a person who has achieved the highest academic degree (or a doctorate) in a field of study.

Most commonly, it is used to refer to person who holds a doctorate degree in medicine (also known as physicians or, in certain civilizations, healers, and in specialization, surgeons), though it is also used for those with doctorates in other fields of expertise.
