"Doctor Bashir, I Presume" is the 114th episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, the 16th episode of the show's fifth season, first aired during the week of 24 February 1997. The episode was written by Ronald D. Moore and Jimmy DiggsMA and directed by David LivingstonMA.
Julian Bashir is selected to be the template for Doctor Lewis Zimmerman's new Long-term Medical Holographic program, although it reveals a secret from Bashir's past that could end his career.
Summary[]
Dr. Lewis Zimmerman selects Doctor Bashir to be the template for his new Emergency Medical Hologram. As this program will run for longer than the current EMHs, Zimmerman plans to study Bashir in depth and interview his friends and colleagues on Deep Space 9, Bashir asks Zimmerman not to contact his parents, but Zimmerman ignores Bashir and invites Bashir’s parents to the station.
Richard and Amsha accidentally reveal to the EMH, and a listening Dr. Zimmerman, that Bashir underwent illegal genetic modifications when he was a child. Bashir’s father agrees to go to prison for two years in exchange for Bashir not being dismissed from Starfleet.
Meanwhile, Dr, Zimmerman offers Leeta an opportunity to relocate to Jupiter Station, forcing Rom to admit his feelings for her. Leeta chooses Rom over Zimmerman and stays on DS9.
