"Dorian’s Diary" is a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine short story.
Dorian Collins deals with the loss of her crewmates on the USS Valiant.
Summary[]
Dorian Collins is the only Red Squad member to survive the destruction of the starship Valiant. Returning home to Luna, she starts to keep a diary. She is receiving counselling from Deanna Troi, who advises her that she is suffering from survivors guilt. She meets Captain Picard, who tells of his experiences when the Stargazer was destroyed.
Dorian’s recovery continues and she is relieved to find out that Internal Affairs will nor reprimand her for her actions on the Valiant. Dorian is to resume her cadet duties, and will be assigned to the starship Wyandotte.
Troi also arranges for Montgomery Scott to meet Dorian and he tells her that he too is the only survivor of a ship, the Jenolen. Dorian also meets with Nilz Baris. Dorian is also visited by Jake Sisko, and they view the lunar sunrise.

- The author commented: “I was watching DS9 and I got to thinking about the episode featuring the Red Squad [cadets]. What would it be like if everybody I worked around for the last eight months were dead? I then thought, a counselor would suggest she write a journal”. (Voyages of Imagination)
- There is a significant time inconsistency with this story. While the story spans over only eleven days, it is said to start 43 days after DS9 episode: "Valiant". Anyway, events depicted in DS9 episode: "The Changing Face of Evil" take place during the events of this story. This is contradicting as both mentioned episodes are about half a year apart from each other in the The Star Trek Fiction Timeline. Thus, the placing of this story in 2374 as provided in "Voyages of Imagination" is questionable. Therefore, the placement in the Memory Beta Chronology has been modified and the story has been shifted to envelope DS9 episode: "The Changing Face of Evil" in the middle of 2375. The inconsistency with the starting point to DS9 episode: "Valiant" may be avoided by considering the start of the story more in the range of 143 days after it.
