The Draavid nebulae cluster was a large formation in the Alpha Quadrant, twice the size of the Orion Nebula. It was the location of multiple protostars, as well as large volumes of ionized molecular gases and Herbig-Haro formations. The combination of these factors, and the radiation levels inherent, made communication and sensor usage problematic within the Draavids.

In 2336, the USS Enterprise-C discovered a black hole within the Draavid nebulae cluster, as well as a crippled Atawhean colony ship caught in its gravity well. The Enterprise was successful in rescuing this ship and escaping itself from the Draavids. (ST - The Lost Era novel: Well of Souls)
