Dramia aurora

USS Enterprise passing through the Dramia aurora in 2270.

The Dramia aurora was a notable stellar phenomenon in the Dramia star system during the 23rd century.

History and specifics[]

The aurora was a result of Dramia's star ionizing stellar debris that had drifted into the system, remnants of a supernova that erupted 40 million years earlier. The debris contained small amounts of quantum-stabilized transuranic elements and other rare material believed to have originated from a stellar lifter that had orbited the star. Ionizing radiation from the aurora interacted with lifeforms to produce deadly viral strains. (Adventures RPG module: The Animated Series Supplemental Guide)

In the year 2251, the aurora enveloped Dramia II during the time Leonard McCoy directed a mass inoculation program and treated Kol-Tai for saurian virus. Shortly after his team departed, the Dramian plague ravaged the colony.

In 2270 McCoy was arrested on Dramia and charged with causing the plague. The USS Enterprise and Security Chief Demos visited Dramia II to investigate. They recovered a survivor, Kol-Tai, but en route back to Dramia, the ship passed through the aurora. Kol-Tai and others soon developed symptoms of the plague. McCoy realized the symptoms were triggered by proximity to the aurora and was able to cure everyone with saurian virus antibodies. (TAS episode & Log Six novelization: Albatross)
