Driffen's Comet

Driffen's Comet was an astronomical object, a comet located in the Donatu sector of the galaxy's Beta Quadrant. This comet was a source of triolic energy. (STO - Spectres mission: "Night of the Comet")

History and specifics[]

The comet consisted of a several hundred meters long ice-rock body, followed by a coma of molten ice. It was identified as a Devidian comet. (STO - Spectres mission: "Night of the Comet")

Driffen's Comet passed through the area occupied by Drozana Station every 144 years. The station was active by the 2260s decade. Driffen's Comet passed Drozana Station for the first time in the year 2265. During the previous pass, the station did not yet exist. Devidians from the 25th century used the comet's properties to attack the Starfleet population of Drozana Station in the 23rd century. (STO - Spectres mission: "Everything Old is New")

The Devidians abducted Redshirts from the maintenance levels in 2265 to the year 2409 and drained them of their neural energy, killing them. (STO - Spectres mission: "What Lies Beneath")

Section 31 and Klingon Imperial Intelligence sent a starship from 2409 to 2265 to destroy the comet and end the Devidian attacks on Drozana Station. The vessel, disguised by a holo-emitter as a House of Duras D7 class battlecruiser came under attack from the House of B'Vat but completed the mission of destroying the comet before returning to 2409. Because Driffen's Comet broke into three fragment, which in turn became nine shards, it required multiple shots to be destroyed. (STO - Spectres mission: "Night of the Comet")

In an alternate timeline were Section 31/I.I. did not destroy Driffen's Comet in 2265, the comet returned to Drozana Station in 2409. Belan, Ferengi operator of the civilian space station in the 2400s, offered Comet Cocktails as part of the bar's menu to coincide with the event. (STO - Spectres mission: "Spin the Wheel")

Ambassador Surah of the Deferi planned on visiting Drozana Station to see Driffen's Comet in 2409 following the defeat of Thot Trel. (STO - Cold War mission: "Cold Storage")
