A dual beam bank was a weapon technology, a directed energy weapons emitter installed on installed on starships and spaceborne-installations like starbases and other space stations. Such a bank fired a pair of energy beams at a target. Like cannons, dual beam banks had a 90° firing arc. Damage dealt increased from minimal at the maximum range of 10 kilometers to a maximum when hitting a target at 2 kilometers or less. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
History and specifics[]
Dual beam banks were standard issue on Federation Starfleet frigates as early as the 2250s decade. (STO - Tutorial mission: "Reporting In")
In the year 2270, Starfleet's Pioneer-class utility cruiser carried a twin phaser beam array, a variant of a beam array instead of a dual beam bank. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "Earthward Bound")
The Miranda-class frigate and related classes carried phaser dual beam banks. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
In 2409, phaser beam arrays were standard aboard Starfleet starships. Dual beam banks were available with different ratings of advancement, ranging from mark I to mark XV, plus unrated variants. These beam banks could be modified by personnel to improve accuracy, critical severity, critical chance and damage output. Aboard starships, dual beam banks could be slotted in fore weapon emplacements only. In contrast, beam arrays could be slotted in both fore and aft emplacements and enjoyed a 250° firing arc but dealt less damage to targets. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
