For other uses, see Duras.

Duras, son of Toral was a Klingon warrior who served during the 22nd century. By 2152, Duras had risen to command the D5 class battle cruiser, IKS Bortas.

History[]

In late 2152, Duras was ordered to apprehend a group of Arin'Sen rebels that had fled from Klingon oppression. By the time the Bortas arrived, the rebels had been rescued by the Earth starship, Enterprise. Captain Jonathan Archer refused to return the rebels which led to a fire-fight between the Enterprise and the Bortas. Duras was further humiliated when the Enterprise was able to disable the Bortas around a gas giant and didn't destroy them. When Duras returned home without the refugees, he was demoted to second weapons officer and forced to serve on Ty'Gokor. (ENT episode: "Judgment")

Duras in 2153

In early 2153, Duras was given command of a Bird-of-Prey and had one final chance to have his revenge on Archer and destroy the Enterprise. He pursued the Enterprise to Earth and nearly succeeded in destroying the starship, until reinforcements arrived and warded Duras off. While the Enterprise was being refitted for her mission into the Delphic Expanse, Duras laid in wait at the edge of the system. When the Enterprise finally arrived at the Expanse, Duras ambushed the Enterprise with two other Birds-of-Prey. Unfortunately, the Enterprise's enhanced weaponry and special maneuvering by the starship led to the death of Duras and the destruction of his ship. (ENT episode & novelization: The Expanse)

He was an ancestor of his namesakes Duras and Duras, son of Ja'rod, who served on the Klingon High Council during the 23rd and 24th centuries respectively, as well as Ja'rod, Lursa, B'Etor and Toral. (VAN novel: Harbinger; TNG episodes: "Sins of the Father", "Redemption")
