Dynamite

Sticks of dynamite.

Dynamite is a chemical compound, an explosive invented by Alfred Nobel in 1866 on Earth that was made with nitroglycerine.

History and specifics[]

In 2269, Captain James T. Kirk hoped a sustained, long-range, pinpoint phaser beam could bore through the Romulan cruiser ChR Red Talon's shields, hull, and then ignite lithium hydride that had been packed around the warp core, destroying the ship. Montgomery Scott likened it to lighting a dynamite fuse. The tactic succeeded, with ignition occurring just before the finish line of The Great Starship Race near Gullrey, saving the planet. (TOS novel: The Great Starship Race)

In 2369, Jean-Luc Picard discovered a box of dynamite at winemaker Leonard Cantrell's residence while roleplaying Dixon Hill in the holonovel The Rich and the Dead. It and other evidence suggested that Cantrell had bombed his business partner's yacht. (TNG comic: "Hidden Agendas!")

In the 2370s decade, the Demolitions class at Starfleet Academy, Mechanical Engineering 204, covered chemical ordnance such as dynamite as well as more modern explosives such as antimatter charges. (Last Unicorn RPG - SA module: Starfleet Academy Handbook)

In 2374 during a Hirogen occupation of USS Voyager, Captain Kathryn Janeway took ten pounds of dynamite from a World War II holodeck program and placed it directly below sickbay. The subsequent explosion killed a Hirogen and heavily damaged the area. (VOY episode: "The Killing Game")

Kelvin timeline[]

In 2259, Doctor Leonard McCoy warily described each of 72 mysterious advanced long-range torpedoes aboard the USS Enterprise as "a newly-designed four-ton stick of dynamite". (TOS movie: Star Trek Into Darkness)
