An EMP weapon was a weapon technology which fired a controlled electromagnetic pulse.
In the year 1995, an EMP weapon was developed by the Soviet Union and mounted on the aircraft carrier Sergei G. Gorshkov. In a demonstration run in the Black Sea, it successfully damaged an unarmed missile's guidance system, but was ineffective against an alien creature which destroyed the carrier and consumed the crew.
