Edgar Rice Burroughs (1 September 187519 March 1950) was an American author who lived during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Dr. Leonard McCoy and Rear Admiral James T. Kirk both read Burroughs' novel series featuring the Hollow Earth location of Pellucidar. (TOS novel: The Starless World, TOS reference: Star Trek II Biographies)

By 2364, Wesley Crusher had read Burroughs' Tarzan and John Carter novels and enjoyed them. (TNG novelization: Encounter at Farpoint)
