Edren IV, also known as the Metron planet, was a planet, the fourth planet of the Edren system, located in the Celes sector of the galaxy's Beta Quadrant. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "In the Shadow of Cestus")
History and specifics
It was located in the general vicinity of Deep Space Station K-12 and the Arcadian system, between Cestus and the territory of the Gorn Hegemony. (ST reference: Star Trek Maps)
In 2267, this fourth planet was deliberated created by Metrons as the site of a historic battle between James T. Kirk and Gorn Captain S'alath. (TOS - Star Trek 2 novelization: Arena, STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "In the Shadow of Cestus")
- Star Trek Maps indicated that it was the third of 10 planets in the Metron system.
The surface contained a storehouse of minerals as well as gems such as diamonds. Terrain included mountains, plateaus, and jungle. Lifeforms includes trees, bamboo, and vines. The sky appeared orange in jungle areas, but thinned to a blue color in rocky terrain. (TOS episode & Star Trek 2 novelization: Arena, TOS - Unlimited comic: "The Veteran")
It was a class L planet. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "In the Shadow of Cestus")
- When he first materialized there, Kirk's impression was that he was on an asteroid, although the Metrons specifically called it a planet in the episode. Last Unicorn RPG module: Planets of the UFP stated that the site was a planetoid thousands of light years away from the system.
By the 24th century, Edren IV was a mining site for both the Gorn Hegemony and the Federation. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "In the Shadow of Cestus")
In 2371, S'alath was transported there to die in honorable battle. The USS Excelsior and a Klingon bird of prey both orbited the planet in April 2371. S'alath died and was buried there by Governor Kang and Captain Hikaru Sulu. (TOS - Unlimited comic: "The Veteran")
