Einstein (NCC-1701/6) was a Class F shuttlecraft assigned to the USS Enterprise.

Service history[]

In the 2260s, rebel Dak-Alphan soldiers reprogrammed the minds of James T. Kirk and Spock to use anesthesia gas on all Enterprise personnel, then return with all of the ship's shuttles. Soldiers then boarded the Einstein, as well as Galileo, NCC-1701/3, NCC-1701/4 and two others, landing them all in the shuttle bay. They expected a ship full of gassed crew, so they were unprepared when a dozen armed Starfleet security officers confronted them. Most surrendered without a fight, but a small group managed to escape aboard Einstein to warn the rebel base. (TOS comic: "Revolt on Dak-Alpha")

The vessel's registry was obscured in artwork, but security referred to it as the "number six shuttle".

In the year 2267, the Einstein was taken by Commodore Matthew Decker and piloted into the maw of a Doomsday machine in an attempt to destroy the automated planet destroying vessel. The Einstein and Decker were destroyed in the attempt but did inspire a successful attack on the planet killer shortly after. (TOS episode: "The Doomsday Machine"; ST reference: Ships of the Line)

Background[]

In its original presentation in "The Doomsday Machine" the shuttlecraft was reused footage of the Galileo from "The Galileo Seven". In the remastered version of "The Doomsday Machine" the original footage was replaced with new imagery of the Einstein (NCC-1701/6), this was preceded by an image by Adam "Mojo" Lebowitz in Ships of the Line which also showed the shuttlecraft sporting the NCC-1701/6 registration.
