Ellen Smith was a female Human and the captain of the supply ship Lotos.
The Lotos crew began operating on the Federation-Cardassian border in the 2350s, and would continue to do so in the same area after the Demilitarized Zone was established, making them popular with the Human colonists. When the Dominion War ended, Smith and her crew were tasked by Headquarters Allied Reconstruction Forces to provide supplies to several planets on the border, including Weibak IV and Ithic II. Smith allowed Rugal Pa'Dar to join her crew temporarily during his search for Penelya Khevet. (DS9 novel: The Never-Ending Sacrifice)
