Ellis was a 23rd century Human woman. She was a science officer who served aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the 2260s under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.
Biography[]
In the year 2268, Ellis was part of the scientific contingent who beamed down to conduct a survey of Octavius IV, along with Commander Spock, Ensign Selena Karras, Ferriter, Margolis, and Owens. Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu took Ellis, Ferriter, and Margolis with him to explore a green ridge not far from the beam-down point.
Ellis made an interesting discovery on the surface, but before Sulu could report it, Kirk ordered Sulu's group to quickly head back in order to avoid a dangerous creature sited in the area. They returned to find evidence of a cave-in. Ellis was the first to wonder if Kirk and others might be buried underground. The group began clearing debris to conduct a search when Commander Montgomery Scott halted their efforts, having been ordered to abandon any lost crewmates so the Enterprise could respond to a distress call in another system.
Later, Kirk wondered if Ellis's discovery might have been sighting hieroglyphs like the ones Karras found. (TOS novel: Legacy)
