The Emergency Counseling Hologram or ECH was a Federation holographic medical officer specialised in psychology. (STO novel: The Needs of the Many)

History and specifications[edit | edit source]

The emergency hologram for counseling was developed by Felix Knightly and supervised by Captain Deanna Troi in the late 24th century to supplement the existing Emergency Medical Hologram deployed on Starfleet ships, to assist with crewmembers psychological needs. The ECH was based on Knightly's holographic lounge singer Vic Fontaine, originally deployed on Deep Space 9 from 2374 for entertainment purposes. (STO novel: The Needs of the Many)

This continued the trend of expanding the Emergency Medical Hologram template begun in 2373 and trialled from 2381. (DS9 episode: "Doctor Bashir, I Presume", VOY novel: Unworthy)

Circa 2399, journalist Jake Sisko interviewed Vic Fontaine at DS9, including asking Fontaine about the new Emergency Counseling Hologram. (STO novel: The Needs of the Many)

Because of the success of emergency holograms, the Alpha Quadrant Alliance released versions of the Emergency Conn Hologram in 2410, assigned the rank of senior chief specialist. (STO - Delta Rising mission: "Crystalline Catastrophe")

All holograms in Allied military service in the 25th century were considered a sentient lifeform and therefore preferably designated a Photonic. (STO - Delta Rising mission: "Crystalline Catastrophe")

In 2423, Fontaine's interview was published in Sisko's book The Needs of the Many. (STO novel: The Needs of the Many)
