The Enser were an ancient alien civilization of avians who saw Kepler's Star go supernova and interpreted it as a war in heaven. They re-engineered themselves to live on radiation and seemingly made themselves extinct by hurling themselves into the supernova remnant. (TNG novel: Intellivore)
