Esper rating was a measure and ranking of Human extrasensory perception, similar to an aperception quotient or Duke-Heidelburg Quotient.

History and specifics[]

046 was considered an average rating. (TOS novel: A Choice of Catastrophes)

After exposure to the energy in the galactic barrier, personnel aboard the USS Enterprise with above average ratings were affected. Those with the highest ratings on the ship, Gary Mitchell and Elizabeth Dehner, were mutated by the experience. (TOS episode & Star Trek 8 novelization: Where No Man Has Gone Before)

People found that their esper ratings had increased after the V'Ger incident in 2273. Marcella DiFalco's esper rating was 056 at the time, but by 2278 had risen to 072. (TOS novel: The Higher Frontier)
