Facility 4028

Facility 4028 was a Federation Space station operating in the late 24th and early 25th centuries. It was a holding facility for dangerous criminals, staffed primarily by holograms led by the Warden, with only five living part-time staffers as of mid-2409.

The station was built into the surface of an asteroid in the Ayala system.

During the occupation of Deep Space 9 by time-shifted Jem'Hadar a starship arrived at the installation to release the female Changeling from custody in exchange for her ordering Loriss and First Kar'ukan to stand down. Kar'ukan learned of the facility's location and interrupted the exchange. The female Changeling chastised him for failing her during the Dominion War, telling him he would not get a second chance. Enraged, Kar'ukan ordered his men to attack. ISIS, the station's control computer, was damaged in the ensuing firefight and many inmates were released from their cells and had to be subdued. At least two inmates, including Taris, escaped by transporter in the chaos.

The captain, Eraun, and the female Changeling beamed to the starship and were stopped by Kar'ukan's Jem'Hadar dreadnought carrier. Starfleet reinforcements including the USS Belfast arrived to cover their escape. (STO mission: "Facility 4028")
