"Family Business" is an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. It first aired in May 1995 as part of the third season.
Quark faces ruin when it is discovered that his mother has broken Ferengi law by earning profit.
Summary[]
Quark is visited by Liquidator Brunt of the Ferengi Commerce Authority and is issued a Writ of Accountability, which Quark soon learns is because his mother Ishka has been caught earning money, illegal for Ferengi women to do. Quark plans to return home to Ferenginar and to force his mother to confess. Rom joins him.
Ishka is unrepentant and Brunt is shocked to see her wearing clothes. While Brunt thinks Ishka only earned three bars of latinum, Quark learns that she has earned profit from ventures all over the Ferengi Alliance and that he will not be able to afford to pain the fine and will be ruined financially.
Quark goes to the FCA to turn his mother in, but Rom stood him, claiming that Ishka agreed to share half of her profits with him. When he returns home, he finds that Rom lied to him. Ishka agrees to sign Brunt’s confession, but only a third of her earnings. Quark bribes Quark to cover up Ishka’s actions.
Meanwhile, all of Deep Space 9 is interested that Commander Sisko is going on his first date with Kasidy Yates. The two bond over baseball.
