A Fanalian toddy was a type of alcoholic beverage that was available on the menu at Quark's on Deep Space 9's Promenade.

History and specifics[]

Various origin myths exist for the beverage, including that it was based on an Andorian aphrodisiac and that it was a folk remedy. It may simply have been created at Starfleet Academy. It was made with Fanalian tea, an ounce of Syrup of Squill, an ounce of whiskey, and then sweetened with honey. Its ingredients soothed the throat and had antioxidant properties. (ST reference: The Star Trek Cookbook)

Neelix offered three ways to simulate the drink's taste. One involved mixing a lemon-lime sports drink, corn syrup, and molasses. The second was mixing water and lemon gelatin. The third mixed a lemon flavored drink and gelatin with brown sugar sprinkled on top. He noted that Dr. Julian Bashir considered it a treatment for coughing. (ST reference: Star Trek Cookbook)

It was served hot. (ST reference: Star Trek Celebrations)

In 2371, Dr. Julian Bashir ordered two Fanalian toddies at Quark's, one for himself and one for Leeta, who had a cough. (DS9 episode: "Explorers")

In 2375, when Ezri Dax seemed uncertain whether to order I'danian spice pudding or kilm steak in the Replimat on Deep Space 9, Bashir suggested two Fanalian toddies. (DS9 episode: "Afterimage")

It isn't clear whether the descriptor "Fanalian" refers to a place of origin or a civilization.
