Fayons were a humanoid species native to the planet Fayo, located somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant.

History and specifics[]

Fayons were non-aligned, yet both its government and citizens were familiar with intelligent life from other planets, and knew about the Federation, Starfleet and even Starfleet Academy.

By the 23rd century, their technology was comparable to Earth of the 18th or 19th century, with horse-drawn carriages for transportation and candlelight instead of electricity. Domesticated animals included camelephants, Fayo ostriches, and unicorns. Spotlights were engineered with mirrors amplifying flames from a dozen large candles. Weapons included swords, spears, flails and crossbows.

Fayon government was a monarchy ruled by an emperor. By the 2260s, the last three emperors were Riyo III, Bavoda's father and Bavoda. While the people lacked many basic freedoms, some sought freedom of speech, honest jury trials, and public elections. Rebel groups espousing these rights controlled regions outside the cities.

In 2266, Bavoda's son Yano took advantage of the presence of Starfleet officers to advance the rebel cause, leveraging James T. Kirk, Spock and Montgomery Scott as hostages. His actions exposed chief of security Lam as disloyal and prompted Bavoda to abdicate in favor of his son. Yano promised to enact democratic reforms. (TOS comic: "Prince Traitor")
