The Federation-Klingon War of 2269 was a conflict fought between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire for six months in 2269. To prevent the Organians from interfering, as they had done during the previous war, the Klingons developed a thought-shield which confined them to Organia.

At the time the war began, the USS Enterprise was mapping a region of deep space near the Shapley Center, and was thus cut off from the Federation. Captain James T. Kirk decided to investigate Organia instead of rejoining the fleet, where they disabled the thought-shield and freed the Organians, who punished the Klingons by depriving them of space flight for a thousand years. (TOS novel: Spock Must Die!)
