A Federation Councillor is a member of the Council of the United Federation of Planets and representative of that individual's Federation member state of citizenship.

Each member determines its Federation Councillor in different ways. Bajor, for instance, has its Councillor appointed by the First Minister and ratified by the Chamber of Ministers; the majority party in the Parliament Andoria selects the Federation Councillor for the Andorian Empire; and Betazed elects its Councillor through direct popular voting.

The number of years a Federation Councillor's term of office consists of is as yet unrevealed.
