The Federation timeship was a far future Federation starship class, a type of timeship in Starfleet service thousands of years after the 24th century. (TNG - Waypoint comic: "Issue 1")
History and specifications[]
A Federation timeship consisted of a single, cube-shaped primary hull. Its hull material appeared gold and reflective. Compared to a 3rd millennium Starfleet cruiser, the timeship's dimension echoed the size of a Borg cube.
At least some of the interior was a virtual space. The ship's computer mainframe doubled as commanding officer and held the rank of captain. A Federation timeship could support a humanoid, organic crew, and operate with as few as 200 engineers.
A ship of this class could remain in service for thousands of years, and followed Starfleet protocol, including the Prime Directive. Despite being computer-based, the artificial intelligence controlling a Federation timeship did not have a complete or correct record of Federation history.
The Sakurazaka was a Federation timeship of the distant future. It became stranded in the late 24th century. Around the 2380s decade, it was investigated by the temporally native USS Enterprise. The captain of the Sakurazaka followed a strict interpretation of the prime directive. Its programming did not allow it to avoid self destruction, even at the cost of the entire crew. Commander Data of the Enterprise, himself an advanced artificial intelligence, argued with the captain for the release of the crew, and, failing to convince the other computer, infiltrated the Sakurazaka's mainframe to allow Enterprise to rescue the crew of 200 Human engineers.
The Sakurazaka was destroyed along with its captain and Commander Data. (TNG - Waypoint comic: "Puzzles")
