Feeniks-Denn IV was a planet, the fourth planet of the Feeniks-Denn system, located in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants. In the 24th century, it was the site of an abandoned Federation colony.
History and specifics[]
By the 23rd century, the planet had evolved plant life but no animals. Surface features included rivers, hills, and a network of caves. The world was colonized by the 2270s decade, and it had two moons.
In the year 2275, an encroaching subspace radiation storm necessitated an emergency evacuation of the colony by the Starfleet starship USS Enterprise. As the storm intensified, it disrupted transporter functions, and sensors were unable to locate the last two colonists needing beam up: painter Elenor Dain and her son Esmondo Dain. At the last moment, they were able to transport one of them, and Captain James T. Kirk chose the son.
The storm persisted for 90 years, preventing modern technology from functioning. Essentially exiled, Elenor Dain spent her life painting, storing completed works in nearby caves. In 2365, the USS Enterprise-D visited the planet in hopes of designing a planetary defense system capable of protecting the colony from future storms. A landing party discovered Dain's remains along with 492 paintings. Her life's work would later be collected and exhibited in the orbital museum at Himalias V.
