A field ration (also called rations or ration packs, or combat rations) is a pre-packaged meal carried by military troops in combat and other field operations, which require little or no preparation.

During the Occupation of Bajor, Bajorans who worked for or collaborated with the Cardassians ran food ration centers like in Relliketh. Dukat planned to eventually close the centers, but did increase the rations after becoming Prefect of Bajor. (ST - Terok Nor novel: Night of the Wolves, DS9 episode: "Waltz")

Federation rations[]

Vulcan combat rations consisted of pulped vegetables. Julian Bashir considered the Vulcan rations logical, but unappealing. (DS9 - Millennium novel: The War of the Prophets)

In 2268 Cervantes Quinn had a bundle of compact field rations on the starship Dulcinea that he was planning to take back to the injured Bridget McLellan. (VAN - Declassified novella: The Stars Look Down)

Starfleet had at least 47 varieties of field rations.

In the mid 24th century, field ration packs of roast beef and blueberry pie were one of the variety provided by Starfleet. Starfleet Corps of Engineers Crewman Fabian Stevens considered starvation preferable to eating these. (SCE eBook: Fables of the Prime Directive)

In 2376, some ration packs include Arroz con pollo, Denevan cherry flambe, Eelshark salad and Quadrotriticale baguettes. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Lesser Evil)
