Ghee PTrell - STO

Ghee P'Trell.

Ghee P'Trell was a chirurgeon (doctor), a Caitian[1] male, born and raised on Andoria in the 24th century. P'Trell was a leading medical practitioner in the late-24th century, noted in the field of gerontology, a Carrington Award nominee and eventually, Head of Starfleet Medical. (DS9 episode: "Prophet Motive"; ST novel: Articles of the Federation; STO mission: "The Ultimate Klingon")

History[]

By 2371, P'Trell was known for his research into the field of gerontology. In that year, the Federation Medical Council nominated P'Trell to receive the prestigious Carrington Award. One of the other nominees that year was Doctor Julian Bashir, prompting much discussion on Deep Space 9. P'Trell, and Dr. April Wade were considered the most likely to win, although the prize ultimately went to Doctor Henri Roget. (DS9 episode: "Prophet Motive")

By August 2380, P'Trell had risen to become head of Starfleet Medical, in place of Doctor Beverly Crusher. In that role, P'Trell was often involved in high-level discussions, involving the Palais de la Concorde and Federation diplomatic personnel, when medical situations arose amongst political events. In August that year, P'Trell helped solve the mystery of what was afflicting a Trinni/ek delegation visiting Earth. In December of the same year, he worked to encouraged Dr. Rebecca Emmanuelli, a former Tzenkethi prisoner, but expert in Tzenkethi medicine, to treat Zormonk, the son of the Tzenkethi Tzelnira, Zaarok. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)

In 2409, P'Trell was doing genetic research on a Federation station in the Korvat system when it was raided by the Gorn and the Klingons. (STO mission: "The Ultimate Klingon")

Appendices[]

Background[]

  1. Ghee P'Trell was originally established as "of Andoria" in the DS9 episode: "Prophet Motive". As Keith R.A. DeCandido explains in his annotations for the novel Articles of the Federation the ambiguity of that reference initially allowed him to establish the character as Caitian, born and raised on Andor, accounting for the character’s name, which doesn't follow established norms of Andorian nomenclature as seen in the TOS episode "Journey to Babel", various Star Trek: Enterprise episodes, and the post-finale DS9 fiction. The video game Star Trek: Online however depicted P'Trell as an Andorian before he was removed from the game.
