Biography[]

Starfleet Academy[]

In 2256, Leslie was attending Starfleet Academy in San Francisco on Earth. In this year, Leslie was taking a Elementary Temporal Mechanics class and was a classmate of James T. Kirk.

When Starfleet played host to a group of Varkolak who were attending the Interspecies Medical Summit, Admiral Barnett of Starfleet Security had enlisted a group of cadets and serve as additional security during the Varkolak's stay on Earth. Leslie was once of the cadets chosen to serve in the security detail and was partnered with Kirk. The pair soon established trust in each other as Leslie covered for Kirk when he arrived late for Barnett's briefing. In repayment for his good deed, Leslie simply asked that Kirk bring him aboard as a crewman when he received his first command.

Kirk would later go on to repay the favor in a different manner when it was their turn to watch over the Varkolak, with Leslie incensed at Lartal's insults aimed at Admiral Barnett nearly leading him to start a fight with the large Varkolak. However, a fight between the Starfleet contingent and the Varkolak broke out when Lartal made derogatory statements about Cadet Uhura, which led Kirk to throw the first punch.

A short time later, Leslie was assigned to guard the Academy's shuttlecraft. When Cadets Kirk and Leonard McCoy needed to requisition a shuttle in order to track down renegade Cadet Nadja Luther, Leslie remembered what Kirk had done for him and left to take a bathroom break, quickly telling them that the Shuttlecraft Indomitable was prepped and ready to go. USS Enterprise[]

In 2258, James T. Kirk was promoted to the rank of captain and assigned command of the Constitution-class USS Enterprise following the defeat of the Romulan Nero. By 2263, Kirk had been true to an agreement made years earlier and had Leslie, now serving as an ensign in the operations division, assigned to the Enterprise's engineering department, under the direct command of Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott.
