The Nihydron destroyer was a Nihydron starship class, a tier 5 destroyer/warship in service to the Nihydron from the 24th century. In the 2410s, additional weapons were part of the complement: The Nihydron destroyer now featured four forward facing and three rear weapon slots. These slots could be equipped with blue standard energy weapons, cannons and torpedo launchers.

A Nihydron destroyer had a crew of 200 officers. Through the Lobi Crystal Consortium, the Nihydron destroyer was made available for commanding officers from the Alpha Quadrant Alliance. The minimum rank for an eligible officer was rear admiral (Starfleet), brigadier general (Klingon Defense Force) or subadmiral (Romulan Republican Force).
The ship was commanded from a bridge equipped with the following stations: one tactical officer with the rank of commander, a lieutenant commander as additional tactical officer, one lieutenant-ranked science officer and engineer each, and one engineering ensign. In 2375, the Kitarians defended their world with 39 Nihydron destroyers against a Borg attack. The Borg adapted to their weapon technology easily. Seven of Nine, aboard the Borg Queen's diamond, enabled five survivors to escape on a Kitarian vessel. (VOY episode: "Dark Frontier")
In 2377, an alien named Varn owned a smaller version of the Nihydron destroyer. He fell for a con by the thieves Dala, Moba and Zar. Varn's ship attacked Dala's Delta Flyer but was stopped from destroying them by the Federation starship USS Voyager. (VOY episode: "Live Fast and Prosper")
In 2382, Starfleet's Project Full Circle task force returned to the Alsuran sector and flushed out hidden Nihydron ships in order to learn more about the region. (VOY novel: A Pocket Full of Lies)

In an alternate timeline were the Krenim temporal scientist Annorax built the Krenim temporal weapon ship Kyana Prime and launched it in the 22nd century, two Nihydron warships were part of a combined Federation-Mawasi-Nihydron fleet engaging the Kyana Prime. When their temporal shields, which had been provided by the Federation starship USS Voyager, failed, the Krenim weapon ship erased the two warships from the timeline.
