Fitzgerald was a 23rd century Human man in Starfleet.
Biography[]
In the year 2269, Fitzgerald was assigned to the Federation starship USS Enterprise as a member of that ship's security force.
On the planet Arachnae, Fitzgerald was one of four additional guards Spock assigned to the landing party when Katalya Tremain demanded additional security. He accompanied Spock and Tremain as they climbed a cliff and reconnoitered a giant cavern near their base camp that could be more easily defended from attack, and scanned the entrance with his tricorder. After assessing the other two would be safe there, he returned to the exposed base camp.
Shortly afterward a large number of insectoids attacked the camp. Fitzgerald was killed by the Arachnians, along with biochemist Donald Ackroyd and technicians Martin and Jeffreys. (TOS novel: Vulcan!)
