The term flight-deck cruiser was a starship classification applied to medium-size multipurpose starships also capable of acting as carriers.
Though lacking the hangar capacity of full-size carriers, flight-deck cruisers featured improved direct combat capability and were faster and more maneuverable. Compared to more conventional cruisers and battlecruisers they had reduced combat power but expanded scientific and engineering features. (ST video game: Star Trek Online)
