Florence Nightingale (12 May 182013 August 1910) was a British social reformer and the founder of nursing on Earth who lived during the 19th and 20th centuries. She was best known for administering to wounded soldiers during the Crimean War from 1853 to 1856.

Nightingale was studied by the 23rd century historian Alexander Lazarus, who created an android, with the psi-clone, and imbued it with Nightingale's personality and history. This android, like other androids of Lazarus, created a city on Gamma Alpha V. She was likely destroyed in the explosion of Gamma Alpha V on Stardate 10:26.3. (TOS comic: "The Legacy of Lazarus")

When Elim Garak offered to help Julian Bashir treat war casualties, Garak told Bashir: "Just call me Florence Nightingale". (DS9 - The Dominion War novelization: Call to Arms...)

In 2377, Ensign Harry Kim redubbed the Kraylor Medical Transport 136 the Nightingale as he believed that it was carrying vaccines and other medical supplies. However, he later learned that it was carrying weapons. (VOY episode: "Nightingale")
