A flux spectrometer was a specialized type of spectrometer, a sensor technology that was able to probe certain aspects of energy.

History and specifics[]

In the 2260s decade, Romulan smuggler Teral of the Barataria specialized in trading difficult-to-find items, such as an inverse-flux spectrometer. Spock noted a standing request to procure one in her ship's database in the year 2268. (TOS - The Badlands novel: Part I)

In 2368, the USS Enterprise-D's flux spectrometers were offline and scheduled to be realigned with new modules installed. When the crew wanted to conduct a luminosity study of the Typhon Expanse, and weren't able to use the ship's flux spectrometers, Commander Data recommended using a gravitron polarimeter. (TNG episode: "Cause and Effect")
