The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was a type of German fighter used during World War II. The aircraft was swift and maneuverable, and considered to be one of the finest fighters in 1942.
Service history[]
On 19 August 1942, Fw 190s and Messerschmitt Bf 109s defended German-held Dieppe, France during the Allies' Dieppe Raid. (DS9 - Explorer short story: "A Year to the Day I Saw Myself Die")
In the year 1942, Pavel Chekov was trapped in the past and was leading a squadron of Russian Yakovlev YAK-1 fighters. While escorting a B-24 Liberator carrying American diplomat Averell Harriman on 15 November 1942, a squadron of Fockewulfe Fu-190s attacked the Allied aircraft before they could reach Sweden. A group of Fu-190s shot off the port wing of Chekov's Yakovlev YAK-1, and the Yak-1 was reported lost over the Baltic Sea. (TOS novel: Home is the Hunter)
- The story named the airplane Fockewulfe Fu-190.
In 1944, Germans would graft an unmanned Junkers Ju-88 bomber to either an Fw-190 or a Bf 109. This Mistel configuration could be deployed as a rudimentary guided missile. In 2273, the configuration was discussed by Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock while assessing the purpose behind IKV Hakkarl being controlled remotely by IKS Tazhat. (TOS novel: Rules of Engagement)
In 2372, Julian Bashir and Miles O'Brien roleplayed bomber pilots during the Dieppe Raid in a holosuite at Quark's. O'Brien shot down a number of Fw 190s with his machine gun turret. (DS9 - Explorer short story: "A Year to the Day I Saw Myself Die")
