A folded-space transporter was a type of transporter technology that moves objects via dimensional shift over vast distances but at a high risk to the individual user.

History and specifics[]

In Federation science, folded-space transport and adaptive transport were described in the Elway Theorem, but research was stopped in the 23rd century because of negative effects on humanoid lifeforms. (TNG episode: "The High Ground")

The Cardassian Obsidian Order had developed a folded space transporter by 2328. (ST - Terok Nor novel: Day of the Vipers)

The Romulans and the Breen also use folded space transporters. (DS9 novella: The Badlands, Part IV)
