The Fortenue system's orbit was the location of at least one planet: the inhabited, ringed Fortenue.
In the late 21st century, a colony ship from Earth visited the system and crashed on Fortenue.
In the year 2279, the Federation starship USS Enterprise visited the system after detecting the colony ship's distress beacon. The colony refused outside assistance, and Kirk indexed the system as "closed" on Federation star charts so the colonists could retain their privacy. (TOS comic: "Goodbye to Spock")
