Ten ForwardChronology of DSC season 2 finale - sourcing (Reply | Watch)

I've seen some edits flying around changing the date of the DSC season 2 finale to 2258 (the rest of the season takes place in 2257 according to the way they picked up after DSC season 1)

Can I ask why the battle with Control is being assigned a date in the year follwoing the buildup to the battle with control? The two events occur within minutes of each other. Discovery disappeared into the red angel phenomenon during this battle.

Now the end of the episode takes place months afterwards, with Spock having returned to duty and finally shaved - this makes absolute sense. the aftermath obviously took some time to sort out and bumping it ahead in the timeline is logical.

But why are we changing the date of the battle? The battle took place months before the epilogue. Is there a source that says Discovery went into the red wormhole on New Years Day, or another date reference i have missed? -- captainmike

As far as I am aware, the majority of season 2 takes place in 2257, as you stated. In the season 3 episode "People of Earth," Lt. Commander Stamets tells Adira that Discovery travelled from 2258. Meaning the battle itself took place in that year. (The DSC s2 finale itself, and initial Eaglemoss releases about ships from that battle, did not indicate it was taking place beyond 2257, by the way.) So the 2258 date was established after the fact - and the way it was referenced doesnt give us an indicator of how far into 2258 it was. it could have been 2258 for several episodes prior to the finale -- captainmike

Agreed. Conversely, there is no indicator that it was 2258 at any time before the commencement of the battle. In the 90s, Trek season finales often took place over the course of a new year, like "Best of Both Worlds" and "Equinox", underscored by reference material coming out after the fact. We probably have to wait for an official publication or a novel to fill in the blanks of dating. Kind regards, -- Markonian 18:45, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

A friendly reminder regarding spoilers! At present the expanded Trek universe is in a period of major upheaval with the finale of Year Five, the Coda miniseries and the continuations of Discovery, Picard and Lower Decks; and the premieres of Prodigy and Strange New Worlds, the advent of new eras in Star Trek Online gaming, as well as other post-55th Anniversary publications.
