A point i made originally which i will re-state: the "delete" discussion infrastructure can and has been used to flag, discuss and enact merges for over a decade now. most recently with [[Memory_Beta:Pages_for_deletion/USS_Glenn_(24th_century)]] which is proceeding in quite an orderly fashion. kind regards, '''''[[user:captainmike|captainmike]]''''' [[file:wiki-wordmarkX.png|69px]] 22:21, April 18, 2020 (UTC)

Ten ForwardMerge Template (Reply | Watch)

I brought this up with Mike on a talk page a while back, but having encountered several more articles over the last couple of days that IMO should be merged, I figured I'd bring it up to the community.

I think we need a Merge template that would bring awareness to discussions about merging, and sort those articles into a category to aid with that. Mike can add his side of the discussion, the gist of which, IIRC, is that he feels a modification to the current delete template will serve the same purpose.

I'm just looking at every other wiki out there, including Wikipedia, and wondering why we don't have a merge template here, like they do. It's non-confrontational, where anything tagged with "delete" might inherently spark some bad feelings. And lumping deletions, mergers and renames all into one category, to me, would make it a mess to deal with.

Discuss, please? --TimPendragon (talk) 22:51, April 9, 2020 (UTC)

Having a dedicated Merge template with an associated category would be great. That way, it can't just slip off the Recent Changes page. We could then routinely check the category to see if a any merger has been requested and needs discussion. Kind regards, -- Markonian 11:26, April 15, 2020 (UTC)
