Fotonovels were a series of The Original Series episode adaptations which combined photo stills from the episodes with written dialogue. Twelve books were published, as well as two "photostories" which adapted the first two Star Trek movies.
John Byrne was inspired by the treatments to create "photoplay" episode adaptations and original stories using a similar format for his ongoing comic book series New Visions.
