For other uses, see Freehold.

Freehold was a Neuralese settlement on the planet Neural established in the 23rd century.

In 2267, Freehold was an unnamed encampment of the Hill People tribe. (TOS episode & Star Trek 10 novelization: A Private Little War)

Prior to 2273, the nearby village of Rocky Bluff was raided by Neuralese from the city of Victory. The survivors abandoned their village and moved to Freehold, where they helped build and fortify it. Villagers from other towns such as Highbridge also migrated to Freehold.

By 2273, Freehold had earned a name, grew to a population of several hundred, and had been expanded to hold more than 100 buildings and dirt-packed roads, fortified with a tree-lined defensive wall that resembled the perimeter around an American frontier town. Its economy was based on hunting and agriculture, with the beginnings of some commerce. A weaver, butcher and woodcarver were among a small number of shops. Houses were built of wood with mud walls. A nearby valley, Providence Valley, was used to cultivate field crops for confolli, fuferan, and regalu. Freeholders were protected by the spirit of Selanee, a mythical figure who founded the Hill People. (TOS novel: Serpents in the Garden)

By 2376, the settlement was abandoned, as the Neuralese had all killed each other. (NF novel: Stone and Anvil)
