The Freighter class[1] was a civilian starship type, a trading vessel[2], freighter[1] and cargo vessel[3] in service since at least the 22nd century[4]. By the 24th century numerous species, including the Karemma,[3] operated ships of this type. The vessel was visually recognizable by its elongated central hull, covered in cargo pods and doors. 22nd century[]
When a xenophobic government took control of Xantoras in 2152, a Freighter-class transport was among the ships evacuating aliens from the planet. (ENT episode: "The Breach")
24th century[]
Karemma freighter in 2372.
A configuration with a forked bow and warp nacelles extending beyond the aft end of the hull was used by the Karemma Foundation of the Gamma Quadrant in the 2370s. During a meeting with the Federation starship USS Defiant and Bartender Quark of the Ferengi Alliance in the year 2372, a Karemman vessel was shot down by the Jem'Hadar but the Defiant saved its crew. In the Alpha Quadrant, a ship of this class, with the nacelles moved forward and a filled-in bow flanked by a pair of horizontal wings and one vertical wing underneath, was part of the Bajoran Militia fleet blockading the moon Derna against the Romulan Star Empire during the Derna incident in 2375. Antarian ship in 2377.
During the setup of the first Antarian Trans-stellar Rally in the Delta Quadrant in 2377, Antarians used Freighter-class ships. Ambassador O'Zaal rendezvoused with the Federation starship USS Voyager to meet Captain Kathryn Janeway. O'Zaal's transport and another joined the spectator vessels parked alongside the path surrounding the start/finish line of the race. (VOY episode: "Drive")
At Ledos, Ledosian Freighter-class ships featured scaffolding-like plating above the central hull. (VOY episode: "Natural Law")
In 2385, the Andorian freighter Cereshta mirrored the appearance of the Ledosian ships. (TNG - The Fall novel: Peaceable Kingdoms)
