Is this the end of the road for Number One? – "Futures, Part One" is a TOS comic published by Marvel-Paramount Comics in 1997, the 12th issue in the Star Trek: Early Voyages series, set during Christopher Pike's captaincy of the USS Enterprise. It begins a four-part arc in which Mia Colt is sent into an alternate future.
Description[]
- While on the planet Algol, Colt and Tyler discover a "keepsake", an artifact that shows the holder images of his or her own future.
Summary[]
Log entries[]
- Captain's log, stardate 389.4
- After the cessation of hostilities between Starfleet and the Tholian Assembly over the disputed Theta Kalyb colony, the Enterprise and the Nelson have pulled into Starbase 45 at Algol II to lick our wounds.
- The Chakuun, the Tholians' shock troops, really chewed us up and spat us out. We were the fortunate ones, however, unlike the Brazzaville and the Achilles.

Background[]
- This is the first part of a four-part story with an unclear arc title. The second part was titled "Future Tense, Part Two", whereas the third part was again titled "Futures", but did not specify its part.
- Spock was referenced, but only appeared on the cover.
- The cover, per an "after John & Terry!" reference, homaged the cover of X-Men #138 by John Byrne and Terry Austin, in which Scott Summers was shown leaving while in the background were his teammates Bobby Drake, Logan, Henry McCoy, Ororo Monroe, Piotr Rasputin, Kurt Wagner, Warren Worthington, and Professor Charles Xavier.
- Renzo, depicted black on the last page, would be drawn differently when a new art team took over next issue.
