For other uses, see Gagarin.

The Gagarin class was a 25th century Federation starship class, a miracle worker battlecruiser and variant subclass of the 23rd century Shepard-class battlecruiser, in Starfleet service from the 2410s decade. (STO Collection Issue 01: "USS Gagarin")

The class was conceived when the Advanced Starship Design Bureau (ASDB) recovered the 150-year abandoned Yard 39 and its Shepard-class technology. (STO website: Age of Discovery: The Stats of the Europa Class!)

Service history and specifications[]

USS Gagarin 1309

The Gagarin in 2256.

The Shepard-class USS Gagarin was active in the 2250s decade. Six months after the Battle of the Binary Stars on 11 May 2256, the Gagarin was lost in the Federation-Klingon War of 2256-2257. (DSC episode: "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum")

In 2401, the USS Gagarin was part of the Starfleet armada led by the USS Stargazer to investigate the Borg spatial anomaly discovered by the USS Avalon. When a massive Borg ship emerged, the Collective briefly seized control of all present ships. (PIC episode: "The Star Gazer")

Star Trek Online continuity[]

150 years after the Klingon War, in 2410, Ensign Elyos and Lieutenant Whetu of the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards discussed the recovery of Yard 39 and several hulks of Starfleet ships hastily abandoned there when the star TL-9139 erupted and flooded its system with baryon radiation in 2259. This included the second USS Gagarin, another Shepard-class starship. With the radiation suddenly diminishing, Starfleet was able to recover Yard 39 and its assets. (STO - Age of Discovery short story: "Utopia Planetia: The Mystery of Yard 39")

The new Gagarin was designed as a battlecruiser that incorporated the miracle worker ship capabilities of the much larger Daystrom-, Scott and Tucker-class miracle worker cruisers. (STO Issue 01: "USS Gagarin")

Construction was undertaken by the San Francisco Fleet Yards at Earth. At the time, the ship carried the experimental registry number NX-97930. (STO website: Mirror of Discovery: Jayce's Interstellar: Around the Galaxy)

In 2411, soon after the shattering of the Klingon Empire, the Gagarin-class USS Tereshkova was one of several ships listed on a docking chart at Earth Spacedock. (STO - House Shattered mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Livery[]

In the 25th century, the design of the Gagarin-class miracle worker battlecruiser allowed its commanding officer to choose from different designs of hull materials, which could be modified further at shipyards. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Furthermore, the installation of deflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from the Reman Resistance, the Breen Confederacy and the Dominion. (STO missions: "Coliseum", "Cold Storage", "Boldly They Rode")
