Gaia sector

The Gaia sector was a sector in the galaxy's Gamma Quadrant, and located in or near Dominion space. In 2411, it became one of twenty sectors that the Dominion granted the Alpha Quadrant Alliance access to, in order to jointly fend off the Hur'q Invasion. Naming[]

The sector's name was derived from the Gaia system, which lays within its border. Due to a temporal anomaly, Gaia IV once was the site of an accidental Federation colony descended from a crash of the USS Defiant. Location[]

In the block of twenty sectors accessible to the Alliance, the Gaia sector shared a border with the Klaxinoth sector on the "west", the Gavara sector on the "north", and the New Yadera sector on the "south", respectively. (STO - Gamma Quadrant mission: "Storm Clouds Gather")

The Gaia sector was situated circa 70.000 light-years from Sol. (DS9 episode: "Emissary")

History[]

In 2373, the Defiant crew discovered the Gaia IV colony, populated by their own descendants. Knowing their fate, the Defiant crew was able to avoid the crash of their ship. Unfortunately, this also erased the colony from history, though the Defiant crew retained their memories of the Gaians. (DS9 episode: "Children of Time")

By 2378, this area of space lay outside the core territory of the Dominion. (ST reference: Star Charts)

By the early 25th century, the Gaia sector was part of the Dominion's core territory. (STO - Gamma Quadrant mission: "Storm Clouds Gather")

In 2411, the Hur'q returned from their hibernation and began a campaign of ravaging the Dominion and its subject worlds. In desperation, Ambassador Odo turned to the Alpha Quadrant Alliance, granting them access to twenty sectors of the Gamma Quadrant in a bid to fight back the Hur'q Invasion together. (STO - Engineered for War mission: "Turn the Tide", STO - Gamma Quadrant mission: "Storm Clouds Gather")

The Hur'q targeted this sector for invasion and faced joint opposition by the Dominion and AQA. (STO - Gamma Quadrant missions: "Break the Circle", "Hur'q Planetary Assault", "Sinister Gathering")
